| September 10, 2015 Review posted by brenda@AboutGreaterCincinnati.com Get ready 'cause here comes MOTOWN The Musical, Berry Gordy’s legacy of love! Now appearing on the Procter & Gamble Hall stage at the Aronoff Center, the national tour of MOTOWN The Musical opened in Cincinnati on September 8th. In a word - FABULOUSl! A Cinsational opener to the Broadway in Cincinnati 2015-2016 season, the musical shines a light on Gordy’s genius to select musical acts, compose hits, and market his independent record label that shattered barriers of discrimination, shaped lives, and left a lasting impression on history with music. From the high energy opening number to a rousing closing performance, the opening night crowd (2,157 patrons) was singing along, reminiscing, smiling, clapping, toe tapping, and groovin’ in their seats! At one point in the show, the audience even found themselves playing a part in a scene set in Las Vegas. In the end, the musical commanded a stand- ing ovation! Over 2 hours and 40 minutes, a phenomenal, talent- ed, energetic cast brought Hitsville, U.S.A. to life performing sixty-two of the biggest hits by MOTOWN legends including Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and The Jackson 5. Musical numbers performed includ- ed "ABC", “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)", “I Wish", “My Girl”, “My Guy”, "Reach Out and Touch", "Super Freak", and “What’s Going On”. My vote for best performances of bringing their musical legend to life: Leon Outlaw, Jr. (as young Michael Jackson), Jarran Muse (as Marvin Gaye), and Elijah Ahmad Lewis (as adult Stevie Wonder). If you already have a ticket to see the show, get ready to move, groove, be entertained, and learn how one man’s dream became a soundtrack for living. Don’t have a ticket? I highly recommend you take in a show. There are 16 performances that run through September 20th. I got a feeling you’re going to love it!
