St. Vincent de Paul Celebrates Opening of
New Western Hills Thrift Store and Donation Center
In February, St. Vincent De Paul volunteers, staff, board members and local residents
gathered for the store blessing and celebration of the newest St. Vincent De Paul thrift
store and donation center.  Since opening February 1st, more than 3,500 customers have
shopped at the new location (5555 Glenway Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238), St. Vincent de
Paul’s seventh location across Cincinnati.  Each store provides a convenient location to
make donations and assist neighbors in need with low cost and no-cost items.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) has been helping Greater Cincinnati and
Hamilton County residents in need with the basic necessities of life for more than 140
years.  The organization works personally with those in need, regardless of race or creed,
to bridge the spiritual, emotional and material gaps in their lives through home visits
provided by neighborhood-based volunteer groups, and groundbreaking initiatives like the
Charitable Pharmacy as well as a network of seven food pantries and seven thrift stores
and donation centers across Cincinnati. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul continues to
be a leading community service organization, recently recognized by The Better Business
Bureau (BBB) as a Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics winner and by The CincinnatiUSA
Regional Chamber of Commerce as Non-Profit of the Year.

Village Life Outreach Project, a Cincinnati based nonprofit, continues work to fight poverty in
Tanzania and expand service-learning initiatives in the Cincinnati schools!  Village Life
continues its commitment to the people of the Lake Victoria Region of Tanzania with projects
that include Malaria Prevention and Education, Water Filtration Projects and Education, and the
Nutritional Feeding Program for school children in Tanzania.  In addition, excitement is growing
as the people of Roche anticipate the opening of the nearly completed Roche Health Center.

Locally in Cincinnati, Village Life's founder, Dr. Chris Lewis, has been very busy using his
speaking talents to inform students and professionals about the work that is continuing in
Tanzania.  Most recently, Dr. Lewis and Richard Elliott spent time with students at Sands
Montessori (pictured above) teaching lessons about Tanzania, including the process of preparing
clean water through the filters that Village Life trains villagers in Tanzania to build and use.
This water filter technology, developed through Village Life's partnership with the University of
Cincinnati and Engineers Without Borders - UC chapter, continues to provide villagers with
access to clean water and is managed in Tanzania by the local water committees.  Dr. Lewis and
Richard had a great time with the students.  The students plan to have a fund drive to support
Village Life!
