The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s Cat Canyon exhibit, which opened in June
2012, received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold
certification – the second highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council
(USGBC). This is the Cincinnati Zoo’s 5th LEED certified building – which is the
most of any zoo or aquarium in the United States.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for
the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.  LEED
certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project
meets the highest green building and performance measures. It emphasizes state of
the art strategies for sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy & atmosphere,
materials & resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation & design
process.

Green building not only provides an obvious, direct, and positive impact on the
environment; from lower emissions of greenhouse gases to less storm water
entering the sewer system to diverting construction waste from the landfill, but
also offers long term financial sustainability.

“The Zoo’s strong commitment to natural resource conservation starts in our
parking lot, before you even get out of your car,” said Mark Fisher, Cincinnati Zoo
Senior Director of Facilities. “We proudly display the country’s largest, urban,
publicly accessible solar array above our main parking lot as a testament to our
aggressive and passionate investment in sustainable living. Building green is the
right thing to do for the planet and for the wallet.”

Congrats and High-fives to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for your
commitment to GO GREEN!
     Redsfest 2012
Cat Canyon Wins Gold
Redsfest, the official annual winter warm-up of the Cincinnati Reds, is a premier fan fest!  And, the 2012 event, held
December 7th and 8th at the Duke Energy Convention Center, did not disappoint.  FOX Sports Ohio Redsfest drew 22,683
fans to the weekend event which featured player autograph sessions, memorabilia shopping, games and activities for kids of
all ages.  There was interaction with past, current and future stars of the Cincinnati Reds.  It was basically a Reds baseball
fan heaven!

Proceeds from Redsfest benefited the Reds Community Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of youth by
leveraging the tradition of the Cincinnati Reds and the game of baseball.  The event raised $20,000.

In addition, $11,000 was raised to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in response to Todd Frazier (Cincinnati Reds
infielder) efforts to help those affected by the storm in Frazier's hometown of Toms River, N.J.    A giant piggy bank was
setup to collect donations and fans responded.  Reds fans donated $1,788 at Redsfest and the rest of the donation came
from the Reds Community Fund.  The $11,000 will be split equally between the Presbyterian Church of Toms River and the
Toms River East Little League.

High-fives all around for another great year of Redsfest!   Go Reds!
