Hippos are Back in Cincinnati
iSPACE Receives Ethicon Endo-Surgery Grant
The almost 20 year wait is over!  Hippos have returned to the
Cincinnati Zoo! Hippos were last at the Zoo in 1997!

Hippo Cove, home to Nile hippos Henry and Bibi, opened to the
public in late July 2016.  This newest exhibit in Africa at the Zoo was
designed to bring visitors “nose to nostril” with an underwater viewing
area and an interactive play area for children of all ages to learn and
explore more about these giant, amazing animals.

The hippo exhibit, which includes a 70,000 gallon pool and
surrounding family play area, is the final addition to the Zoo’s $34
million Africa exhibit.  Read more about the exhibit
here .

Welcome to Cincinnati Henry and Bibi!

iSPACE, the  premier provider of STEM (science, technology,
engineering and math) learning in the Greater Cincinnati Region, has
been awarded a $35,000 grant by Ethicon Endo-Surgery to support
iSPACE’s IGNITE Engineering program.

iSPACE, piloted the IGNITE Engineering program at Roselawn
Condon and Hartwell elementary schools in the 2014-2015 school
year. Weekly iSPACE staff or volunteers visit classrooms and use
LEGO to teach the students about physics and engineering. iSPACE
will follow the same cohort of 130 students through the end of sixth
grade to determine if students introduced to STEM-related LEGO
programs early and consistently, develop skills and interest in STEM
and pursue those avenues in high school and beyond. This fall iSPACE
looks forward to working with third graders in both schools.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery has invested in IGNITE Engineering, to fund
the continued long-term longitudinal study of the impact of early
LEGO-STEM curriculum exposure on underserved urban children.
